Specimen Requirements:

URINE: Patient should not have urinated for at least one hour. Collect the specimen in a sterile, preservative-free specimen collection cup. The patient should collect the first 20-60 mL of voided urine (NOT MIDSTEAM). Transport refrigerated. Urine may be transferred to a Qx UPT (Urine Preservative Transport) tube. DO NOT over- or under-fill this tube. The correct volume has been added when the fluid level is in the fill window. Transport refrigerated or room temperature. ***For all swab collection kits*** Only the swab supplied with the collection kit is acceptable FEMALE ENDOCERVIX: Use the Female Endocervial Collection Kit for the BD ProbeTec(TM) Qx Amplified DNA Assays. Transport refrigerated or room temperature. OR MALE URETHRAL: Use Male Urethral Collection Kit for the BD ProbeTec(TM) Qx Amplified DNA Assays. Transport refrigerated or room temperature. OR PATIENT-COLLECTED VAGINAL SWABS: Use only the Vaginal Specimen Transport Kit for the BD ProbeTec(TM) Qx Amplified DNA Assays. Transport refrigerated or room temperature.

Rejection Reason:

ONLY BD COLLECTION KITS ARE ACCEPTABLE. Samples received with no swab, cleaning swab or non-BD Kit supplied swabs are unacceptable. Samples received with correct swab, but shaft broken too short are unacceptable. Eye, throat, or rectal specimens are unacceptable. Over- or under-filled Qx UPT tubes. Specimens submitted in outdated or expired media will not be tested. No exceptions can be made.
