ANA Cascading Reflex

As a healthcare provider, you are aware that autoimmune disorders can be very difficult to diagnose. Overlapping and non-specific symptoms, confusing test choices, and hard-to-interpret results make diagnosis especially challenging and time consuming. In fact, recent studies have shown that that average time spent to diagnose Lupus is 3.3 years. While ANA screening tests and titers are routinely ordered, they fail to define a specific autoimmune disorder. An earlier, differential diagnosis would help your patients receive the appropriate treatment quicker, resulting in improved health outcomes.

Sonora Quest Laboratories is proud to offer an ANA Cascading Reflex. This three-tiered assay measures the amount of the 11 most common anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA’s) associated with the most prevalent systemic autoimmune disorders. The first tier tests for the five most commonly ordered ANA’s, representing 85% of patients with an autoimmune disorder and “cascades” into the next tier if all are negative. If any of these ANA’s present themselves, the cascade stops and identification of the specific ANA and an interpretive comment are reported. Testing continues into the second and third tiers if necessary, measuring the next six most common ANA’s. If all tiers yield negative results, only an ANA is billed. If testing stops before all tiers are complete due to a positive result, only testing performed to that point is billed.

Sonora Quest Laboratories also offers disease-specific panels for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Sjögren’s Syndrome, and Scleroderma.

Our goal is to minimize unnecessary testing and take the difficulty out of autoimmune disease diagnosis with the unique screening abilities of our ANA Cascading Reflex and disease-specific panels.
