Specimen Requirements:

1 mL refrigerated serum (0.5 mL minimum). Draw specimen in a barrier tube. Spin and separate the serum as soon as possible after clot formation (prefer within 45 minutes after collection). Be sure barrier forms a complete separation between serum and cells. Fasting 8-12 hours required.


Serum specimens must be separated from the cells within one hour of collection. Once separated from cells, serum is stable for 8 hours at room temperature and 3 days refrigerated. Plasma from gray-top tube is stable for 24 hours at room temperature.
